“If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit, and that’s why you’re worshiped.”
Psalm 130:3-4 (MSG)
I grew up in church thinking God was an angry old man with a long white beard and an even longer stick, just waiting for me to make a mistake so He could give me a whack. I don’t know where I came up with this theology because I don’t remember anyone saying such a thing to me.
Verse 3 tells us God doesn’t keep records of our wrongs. He doesn’t commit them to memory or write them down in some type of heavenly notebook.
“Forgiveness is your habit.” This is a habit I’m glad He’s not trying to break.
“And that’s why you’re worshiped.” When we realize God has forgiven us, worship is our natural response. How can we keep ourselves from loving Someone Who is so good to us?
God, our Father, loves us and is not disappointed with us. He’s just waiting for us to come to Him. No big sticks. No whacks. Pure forgiveness. That’s an offer I cannot refuse. How about you?
