While attending visitation at a funeral home, I heard several people sharing their regrets. Some wished they had said words they hadn’t said; others wishing their words had been left unsaid. Some regretted things they had done while others regretted not doing more. But it was too late; the past could not be changed.
As I listened, I thought of the day I would see Jesus face to face. When it is my turn to stand before Jesus, I don’t want to be there with a list of excuses for the things I didn’t do, and reasons why I did other things.
Each day is filled with choices. Are we patient in the checkout lane at the store? Are we considerate to other drivers? Do we yell at the kids? How are we treating our spouse? We can be a witness of God’s love to those around us. Even the smallest choices are important.
“He who is faithful in a very little [thing] is faithful also in much, and he who is dishonest and unjust in a very little [thing] is dishonest and unjust also in much.”
Luke 16:10
“I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live and may love the Lord your God, obey His voice, and cling to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Deuteronomy 30:19, 20
As we make choices in life, may each one lead us to the end with no regrets.
