2016. 2016. 2016. 2016. Just practicing.
It’s difficult to believe we are halfway into the first month of the new year. Is it me, or do years pass more quickly these days?
The entrance of this new year was quite uneventful for us, for which we are thankful since 2015 came in with a bang. Literally. A few rounds of bangs to be precise. January 1, 2015, we awakened at 3 a.m. to find five members of the Swat team in our back yard exchanging gunfire with a neighbor.
We were informed to go into a safe place in our home away from windows until further notice. My husband, dog, and I sheltered in our laundry room until 6 a.m. when the situation was finally resolved.
We live in a normally safe neighborhood and wouldn’t have expected such an occurrence. As we sat on the cold floor, we prayed, quoted Psalm 91 and speculated what may be happening in our own back yard. In the end, no one was critically injured; a neighbor with personal problems had made some poor choices.
This new year was much quieter with occasional fireworks and celebratory gunfire. We couldn’t help remembering last year, thankful for God’s love and protection. No matter what comes our way, God is faithful.
And there are times when having the Swat team around doesn’t hurt either.
