“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.”
Isaiah 53:5 (AMPC)
This verse is full of goodness. We learn how Jesus paid for our forgiveness, peace and healing.
“He was wounded for our transgressions.”
“He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities.”
“The chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him.”
The GOD’S WORD translation says it this way. “He was punished so that we could have peace.”
Peace is written all over this verse. Jesus obtained peace and well-being for us. We have peace in our spirits when we are forgiven. We have peace in our souls when we have no guilt. And we have peace in our bodies when we have no sickness and pain. Jesus covered it all.
Jesus bought forgiveness, peace, and healing for us as He died on the cross. None of these things fall on us out of the clear blue sky. If they did, everyone would be joyful, peaceful and well. We have to receive these things or we will never have them.
How do we receive forgiveness? Peace? Healing? They all come to us the same way.
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we declare with our mouths that we believe, and so we are saved.”
Romans 10:9, 10 (NCV)
Jesus did the hard part. Our part is simply to believe what He has done for us and thank Him for it.
I know this sounds too easy. I cannot count the times I have tried to earn things from God, but Paul makes it clear in Ephesians.
“For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ!”
Ephesians 2:9 (TPT)
Jesus took care of everything.
“He was wounded.”
“He was bruised.”
“Chastisement … was upon Him.”
“The stripes … wounded Him.”
He did it all so we could have it all.
We can receive whatever we need today. It’s paid for.
