“We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us…” 1 John 3:16 (NLT)
My life has been a roller coaster of questioning God’s love for me. He loves me. He loves me not. This is when I base God’s love for me on how I feel at the time. Feelings can change in a split second, so they leave me wondering.
We cannot live by feelings in other areas of life, so I should have known feelings would fail me. If make decisions based upon our feelings, some days we wouldn’t crawl out of bed. We might not go to work or to school. The house wouldn’t be cleaned, the lawn never mowed, and most chores would be left undone. We learn to disregard our feelings and simply do what needs to be done.
It is the same with God’s love. Facts, not feelings, are indicators of God’s love for us. John tells us “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us.”
Jesus paid the highest price He could pay for us. He did not simply say “I love you.” He loved us with His actions. Jesus left heaven, became a man, and experienced all the discomforts of living on earth. And then at age 33, He chose to suffer and die so we could be joined with Him forever. What a way to put an exclamation mark on the words, “I love you!”
We can be sure there will be times negative feelings will tug at our hearts, causing us to question the love of God. But when they come, we can look to Jesus, the One Who gave His everything for us. We are never separated from His love.
There is no reason to waste another minute feeling unloved. Let’s look to Jesus and we will be assured of His real love.
