There was a story that played on repeat in my mind. God was stuck with me. He watched me and wondered when I would once again do something wrong. It took everything within Him to refrain from flicking me off the planet with His finger.
Then I learned God has a habit. Thankfully, it is not the habit of flicking people off the planet.
“If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit, and that’s why you’re worshiped.” Psalm 130:3-4 (MSG)
We have done many wrong things. God has plenty to hold against us. But verse 3 tells us God doesn’t keep records of our wrongs. He doesn’t commit them to memory or write them down in some type of demerit notebook. Instead, He throws them away like the trash.
“He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:12 (NLT)
“Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!” Micah 7:19 (NLT)
We may struggle with feeling badly about our sins, but God does not have this trouble.
“Forgiveness is your habit.” This is a habit I’m glad God is not trying to break.
“And that’s why you’re worshiped.” When we realize God has forgiven us, worship is our natural response. How can we keep ourselves from loving Someone Who is so good to us?
God, our Father, loves us and is not disappointed with us. He’s just waiting for us to come to Him. No lists. No lectures. Pure forgiveness.
That’s an offer I cannot refuse. How about you?
