“Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name.
‘They will be mine,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him.
And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.'”
Malachi 3:16-18 (NIV)
God keeps a scroll of remembrance, a type of journal. These verses tell us whether we are in His journal or not. God listens to what we say. When we are thankful and say good things, He writes about us in His journal.
My children are my favorite subjects for journals and scrap books, and He feels the same way about us. We are His children, His treasured possession.
He appreciates it when we respect Him with our words, like a proud father saying, “That’s my son.” Or “Did you see my daughter?” He wants to show us off, right out in the open, making sure everyone knows we belong to Him.
If we spend our time complaining, the Lord is not recording this in His journal.
God is listening to every word we say. Are we giving Him a new journal entry today?
