I enjoy television programs about home building, and remodeling. I’m entertained by people acquiring their dream home.
I’ve never lived in my true dream home, but our past home in Indiana came pretty close. I was more “at home” in that house and on that acreage than anywhere I’ve ever been. I called it “my little piece of heaven on earth.”
My dream home wouldn’t be large and extravagant. It would be country-style with large windows, plenty of woodwork, a country kitchen, and inviting outdoor porches. Maybe someday I will live in my dream home, but for now this Texas-style house will do.
God has a dream home in mind too, but it’s not a home built by man. God wants to live inside of us. We are His dream home.
“…God is building a home. He’s using us all – irrespective of how we got here – in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day – a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.”
Ephesians 2:19-22 (MSG)
Before Jesus came to the earth, God’s presence could be found in a building made by man, or occasionally He would visit someone. But when He sent Jesus as the sacrifice for our sin, He could come close to us; so close He decided to move inside of us.
It’s reassuring to know that God is the One Who is building us. If renovations are needed, He knows how to get the job done.
“Who would think of setting up pagan idols in God’s holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are, each of us a temple in whom God lives. God himself put it this way: ‘I’ll live in them, move into them; I’ll be their God and they’ll be my people. So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,” says God. “Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself. I’ll be a Father to you; you’ll be sons and daughters to me.’”
2 Corinthians 6:16-18 (MSG)
Living in our dream home is great and our Father is happy for us to have it. But let’s not forget about Him. We are His dream home.
