“God is in control” is a statement I often hear. Many times this is said during a difficult time. We don’t understand why something is going wrong and we assume it is God’s plan rather than wondering if we might have something to do with it.
Tests and trials come to all of us, yet difficulties can be a result of wrong choices we have made. Maybe we should be saying, “I am in control.”
One song says “Deliver me from me. Deliver me to You.” Many times we are the problem. It can be easier to look on the outside for the problem, at others or at God; but maybe we should begin by looking on the inside of ourselves.
The only time we can truly say, “God is in control” is when we have completely surrendered control to Him. God does not take control from us. He only controls what we allow Him to control.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5, 6 (NASB)
One meaning of the word “acknowledge” is “to admit the authority of.” As we give the control to God, He makes our paths straight. We can trust God; He knows and wants what is best for us.
So the next time we say, “God is in control,” let’s make sure He really is.
