“Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.”
Galatians 6:4, 5 (MESSAGE)
God has uniquely made each of us. He has given us different gifts and talents, along with unique personalities. We have to discover who we are and what He wants us to do, and then get busy doing it.
What a boring world it would be if we were all the same. God is the Author of our uniqueness so there is no need to compare ourselves. As the old saying goes, “You cannot compare apples to oranges.” Though apples and oranges are both fruit, they are completely different. Likewise, it’s fruitless (pun intended) to compare two very different people. We aren’t supposed to be alike.
There’s also no reason to be impressed with ourselves. God has created us and made us who we are. He has given us everything we have.
When we see Jesus one day, we will have to give account of what we did or did not do. Did we use what God gave us? Did we fulfill His plan for us?
When we find out who God has made us to be and what He wants us to do, the only thing left, is to go do it.
