“So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of God.”
Corinthians 2:5 (AMPC)
Our culture says:
1) hear,
2) understand,
3) do.
God says:
1) hear,
2) do,
3) understand.
Some of us have been taught we must understand something before we choose to do it; but sometimes God tells us to do things that don’t always make sense.
“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)
Many times we cannot know the outcome of our obedience until we have actually followed through and obeyed.
Hebrews chapter eleven is filled with people who did what God instructed, instead of following the popular advice of their day. Many stood alone while being ridiculed by others; nevertheless, God was always faithful when they chose to obey Him.
“It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8 (NLT)
Abraham obeyed God even when he had no idea where he was going. Our faith must be the same. There will be times we don’t know where our obedience will take us; but as we obey, understanding comes.
“We do not want you to become lazy, but to be like those who believe and are patient, and so receive what God has promised.”
Hebrews 6:12 (GNT)
As we come to know God, and grow in His Word, we will have the faith to follow His plan, even when we don’t understand.
We had just heard yesterday we were to HEAR-BELIEVE-OBEY.
This is a confirmation to “Keep Our Hearing Ears Open”.
Heb. 5:8 Expanded Bible
Even though Jesus was the Son of God (or a son with the right rights and privileges of an heir) he learned obedience by what he suffered (through total obedience to God. Jesus achieved the glorified or perfected state God originally intended for human beings; 2:3-9)
Thanks for sharing that, Betty Jane!
I love how Jesus never asks us to do something He hasn’t done first.
