I remember clothes from different moments in my life; this is quite possibly a female attribute. When I go down memory lane I tend to remember what I was wearing while I was “there.”
I still “see” a blue and green plaid dress I wore as a very young girl. One day I was wearing this dress while riding in the car with my dad and choking on a sour ball at the same time. My dad pulled the car to the side of the road to make sure I was going to survive the sour ball while I worried about getting sick on my favorite dress.
I remembered staying in a motel when I was in my teens, and immediately a peach blouse with an eyelet ruffle popped into my head. I had completely forgotten this blouse until the vacation memory brought it back to me.
Obviously, it’s easier to remember what we wore at special events, especially the ones captured in photos. Clothes seem to go hand in hand with memories of our lives.
God found it important to tell what the famed Proverbs 31 woman wore.
“She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.”
Proverbs 31:22 (NLT)
It doesn’t stop there. In verse 25 it tells us what type of spiritual clothing she wore as well.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”
When my memories return to a place once traveled, after remembering what I was wearing on my body, I also hope to find I was clothed with inward qualities such as strength and dignity.
