“It is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the ways of truth!”
3 John 1:4 (TPT)
This is one of my favorite scriptures. Raising my two children was the most rewarding thing I have ever done, and my greatest joy today, is seeing them live for Jesus.
Throughout their childhood, I had a few scriptures I regularly visited which gave me great encouragement.
“As I think of your strong faith that was passed down through your family line. It began with your grandmother Lois, who passed it on to your dear mother, Eunice. And it’s clear that you too are following in the footsteps of their godly example.”
2 Timothy 1:5 (TPT)
Paul is reminding Timothy his faith came to him from the women in his family. We learn a bit more of Timothy’s parentage in Acts,
“Paul and Silas came to the city of Derbe and then went on to Lystra, the hometown of a believer named Timothy. His mother was a Jewish follower of Jesus, but his father was not a Jew.”
Acts 16:1 (TPT)
I am unsure if Timothy’s Greek father ever came to faith in Jesus, but Timothy’s mother and grandmother are credited with passing on their faith.
Here we have another example of a godly mother,
“King Lemuel’s royal words of wisdom: These are the inspired words my mother taught me. Listen, my dear son, son of my womb. You are the answer to my prayers, my son.”
Proverbs 31:1, 2 (TPT)
This chapter goes on to share the clear instructions King Lemuel’s mother gave him on how to conduct himself and how he was to find a good wife. It is believed that King Lemuel was King Solomon, so Bathsheba was the mother mentioned in these scriptures. I find it interesting she, and not King David (Solomon’s father), is acknowledged teaching him these things.
“Every wise woman encourages and builds up her family, but a foolish woman over time will tear it down by her own actions.”
Proverbs 14:1 (TPT)
A woman has the power and the calling from God to build the family. Mothers typically spend more time with the children than the father, so they have the opportunity to do the most teaching and training. The best family situation is for the husband and wife to work together as a team, but even one parent who is born again can raise godly children.
Never underestimate the value of being a woman of faith and the impact it will bring to future generations.
